ALIGN COUNSELING & CONSULTING
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
It’s normal to have questions before you start counseling, especially for the first time. Here are some of the most common ones, but feel free to email with any we didn’t cover!
Why Choose Align Counseling and Consulting?
At Align, we believe being in alignment meanings feeling like your being is in agreement; you are living authentically in your actions and values. Often, issues arise in our life we feel out of alignment–with our ourselves, our purpose, our career, our partners. If you are feeling mental distress, you probably know this feeling. We’d love to help you remove obstacles, fears, and faulty believes or patterns that have been keeping you from feeling the peace of being aligned.
In the counseling world, we also wish for our clients to feel our support and hope for them. We seek for our clients to feel us align with them and for the alignment experience in itself to be therapeutic – a way to model healthy relationships and attachments so they are more easily sought out and recognized in the real world (aka outside of session).
Do you offer telehealth and in-person sessions?
We offer sessions both in-person at our office in the Hurstbourne/Plainview area of Louisville, KY and via telehealth. The in-person address is available in our contact section. Telehealth means we meet virtually, in a HIPAA-compliant video session (similar to Zoom format) called Simple Practice. You download the app or link and we can meet from the comfort of your own home on your phone or laptop.
The great news about telehealth is that it allows us counselors to serve a larger population. We see clients from all over KY virtually.
How much does a session cost? Do you take insurance? How do I pay?
Counseling sessions are 55 minutes and cost between $125 and $175 per session depending on therapist and couples versus individual counseling. Rates will be discussed in a consultation call or email prior to your intake appointment.
Extended length sessions (75 min, 90 min, 120 minutes) are available and can be prorated.
Sliding scale fees are available upon request. Each therapists allots a specific number of sliding scale rate clients at any given time. We would be happy to talk to you about qualifying.
Rates are always discussed prior to your first session. However, all clients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” to estimate expected charges. You are welcome to request this from me at anytime before or during treatment.
We do not accept insurance. However, we am happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to you insurance for reimbursement.
Payment is due at the time of service. We accept all major credit cards, cash, check, and FSA and HSA accounts.
What does confidentiality mean?
Confidentiality is one of most important elements of counseling. We follow the American Counseling Association’s ethical requirements on confidentiality, as well as federal/state confidentiality law, and the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which all prohibit sharing client information with anyone else with a client’s consent. What we speak about in session, stays in session. There are a few exceptions to confidentiality:
-
If a client discloses a plan to harm themself or another person to the counselor.
-
If the counselor suspects child or elder abuse in any form, as required by KY state law.
-
If the counselor is subpoened for court, she may be required to disclose relevant information. However, every effort is given to protect the client’s confidentiality, and the client will be notified of the subpoena.
-
We hire some provisionally licensed therapists (such as licensed professional counselor associates), who currently operate under the license of a qualified and approved supervisor, as they require clinical supervision hours by KY state law. Confidentiality is therefore extended to their supervisor only, allowing for consultation. Every effort is made to protect anonymity and privacy of clients.
Sometimes, there are times when the client and therapist wish to consult with another provider, such as when seeking medication for further management of symptoms. In such cases, the therapist will consult with a psychiatric provider or physician with written permission from the client for coordination of care.
